Wimberly – Central Library

The primary objective of the 2009 Glendale Central Library Vision Plan was to assess the relationship(s) of the library with the surrounding urban area. With major shifts happening throughout downtown Glendale, California, a number of potential and planned relationships will impact the library in the near future. What resulted from several diagrams, schemes, way-finding techniques, and spatial planning is a dynamic new Vision Plan that relates to the existing conditions yet adapts to new uses and access routes. The traditional quality of the library is a homogeneous one–silence, solitude, and austerity its key characteristics. The Glendale Central Library Vision Plan proposes a heterogeneous hub that allows for a range of activities to coexist and blend productively. The library will no longer be simply a place of books and quiet, but a place of connection, exchange, and that only succeeds if it contributes to both the development of people and the city. www.osborn320.com
